Sandblasting has been the default for stripping rust and coatings for decades, but laser cleaning is changing what is possible, especially for mobile, on-site work.
Surface protection
Sandblasting is abrasive by nature and removes some base material along with the contaminant, which can alter tolerances and finishes. Laser cleaning is far gentler on the substrate, making it safer for precision parts, thin metal, and delicate surfaces.
Cleanup and environment
Sandblasting generates large volumes of spent media and dust that must be contained and disposed of. Laser cleaning produces minimal waste and no chemical runoff, which is a major advantage near waterways and inside occupied facilities.
